Yesterday I told you about how I am teaching the alphabet to my son and shared tons of awesome resources for teaching toddlers.

Now I'm going to show you our first alphabet project for the letter "A"!

This would also be a great project for a birthday party or playgroup-- you could do the cutting ahead of time and then let the kids decorate and assemble the airplanes.

You will need:
1 sheet of fun foam
Xacto knife
cutting mat
paper clip
craft glue
tape
paint and brush (optional)
To get started you will need to print the airplane pattern.  Just click here and then print it!
1.  Secure the printed pattern to the foam with tape, set it on top of the cutting mat, and use the knife to cut on top of the lines.
2.  I wanted to let my toddler get involved in making the airplane (and I didn't think he was quite ready to use the knife) so I let him paint it at this point.  You can see he has his blue hat with him, that is very helpful when using blue paint.
3.  Punch out the shapes and put them together to form the airplane.
4.  I used a little craft glue to hold it together because it does get banged around a little when you play with it.
5.  Once the glue is dry, attach the paper clip to the nose of the plane and let it SOAR!

I can’t get the pattern to print can you help

    • Kate says:

Yes! Click on “printed airplane pattern” in the materials list, then use your internet browser to print it. Each browser is different, mine has a “tools” button in the top right of the screen that you click and get options like “new tab, zoom, print…” and just click on print. Let me know if you still have problems and I’ll see what I can do.
