Hi Cheap, Crafty Mama readers!

I'm Meredith (and that's my sweet hubby) from {Wait Til Your Father Gets Home}, a crafty and DIY blog that I recently started since becoming a stay at home mom to this little cutie...

First and foremost, I'm a wife and a mama. I also have a weakness for...

cinnamon toast crunch

flip flops

McDonald's caramel frappes

fall weather (hello, college football season, GO Spartans!)

and last, but not least, The Target Dollar Spot.

I'm thrilled to be with all of you today and excited to share part of my little guy's first birthday decor, a burlap name banner!

I was inspired by a fellow blogger than I l.o.v.e., Kierste of Brown Paper Packages. Last month she shared this tutorial on Stars and Stripes Bunting, and I just knew I could use her technique to make a similar banner with my son's name on it for his first birthday party!

To make a {burlap name banner} you'll need:

one 8 x 11 rectangle of burlap per letter in your child's name

spray paint in your desired color(s)

letter stencils

painter's tape

hot glue

jute twine

Let me just start by saying that if you had a Silhouette Cameo this project could definitely use it! I'm just dying to get my hands on one. Since I'm not a Cameo owner, I opted for finding a font that I liked in good 'ole Microsoft Word and enlarging it to my liking. Once I clicked print, I simply cut out each letter and taped it directly to burlap rectangle.

I chose to alternate between red and blue spray paint since the party had an All-American theme!

I only did one coat of spray paint and got the look I was going for immediately! I let it dry outside and after about 20 minutes, the rectangles were good to go.

Now, remove the stencils to show a burlap letter on each rectangle.

To assemble the banner, you simply hot glue jute twine to the top (on the backside) of each rectangle. You can fold it over and around the twine just slightly to ensure that it adheres well. You may want to space out the letters along the twine first to figure out how far apart you want them to be.

Soon, you'll have a super cute burlap name banner to display at your party...

(Yes, I hung a 1 year old's birthday banner on our wine rack...it looked good there!)

The best thing about this project is that I could see it working for so many different occasions. You could spell out a holiday related word, do initials of a bride and groom for a wedding reception or engagement party, use it in a classroom to label centers...the possibilities are endless! I'm planning on hanging it in Jackson's room somewhere soon.

Thanks again for letting me crash your blog today Kate...I had a blast!

Thanks so much for sharing with us, Meredith!  I really enjoyed learning how to make that and it's got my creative juices flowing of other ways to use this technique on burlap or other fabrics... I'm thinking throw pillows would be cute!
