Hi Everyone,
I am Deanne and I blog at five brothers one sister.
As the name of my blog suggests I have five sons and one daughter, so with a large family and one income it is important for me to decorate my house as cheaply as possible.
Today I thought I would share with you my love affair with chalkboard paint.
While chalkboard paint is not that cheap a little goes a long way.
Except maybe when you decide to paint a fridge!
Like I did to this one in our entertaining area.
But generally a little is all you need.
These are my herb pots in my garden.
I have also used it to label my preserves.
My kids love this little suitcaseI did for them out of an old lunch tin I picked up at a garage sale.It is great for them to make words and write them.
Last year I did this door in one of my kids bedrooms- so cool!He loves it!
I took advantage of the recent winter school holidays here in Australia to do a few projects and several of them involved my beloved chalkboard paint.

This wine cooler is the same one pictured in the herb garden above, an op (thrift) shop find.A child thought it would look prettier painted- it did not!So I splashed on some chalkboard paint to cover it up and voila I can now write on the outside what wine I am serving.
These trays are destined for my dining room wall.
I have debated long and hard about painting one wall in my dining room in chalkboard paint, but I am worried it will make the room too dark, so I am compromising with this.
I am trying to work out a way to hang them so that I can still use them when I want to.
Finally I thought I would share a quick step by step tutorial on some placemats I did.
These are the corked backed placemats that were popular a few years ago.
I picked some up at an op shop but there were only 4 and as I need 8 I have been waiting for some more to complete the project, the second set I found at a garage sale, they are not quite the same size, but I was sick of waiting!
I also picked up a number of coasters to match.I started out by giving them all a light sand, then I simply gave them a couple of coats of chalkboard paint.I prefer the
chalkboard paint in tins to the spray paint as I find the spray can
sometimes come out a little lumpy and doesn't always give a smooth
finish.

Here they are drying.
Here they are labelled and on the table.
A quick, easy and cheap project any one can do!Thanks Kate for inviting me- I hope you are enjoying that gorgeous baby! Please come and visit me at five brothers one sister any time.
