With the 4th of July quickly approaching, I decided we needed a cute patriotic sign for our front porch. I found some wooden letters on sale at hobby lobby that inspired this sign-- all the other materials I used were things I already had so the whole project probably cost around $2 to make!
You will need:
1 piece of scrap wood
wooden "USA" letters- mine are from Hobby Lobby
acrylic paint (white, gray, brown, red, blue)
paint brushes (1 wide for dry-brushing, 1 medium for painting letters, and 1 small for painting words)
wood glue
wire
glass beads
torn strips of fabric or ribbons
upholstery staple gun & staples
I started by painting the wood.
I used the wide natural bristle brush to dry-brush on white paint and then a little gray to make it look old and weathered. Luckily this piece of scrap wood was really old and beat up so that helped me achieve that look!
I also painted the letters solid blue and red.
Then I dry-brushed some gray paint on the letters to make them look old too.
Next, I used the wood glue to attach the letters to the board and used the small paint brush with brown paint to write "God bless the" at the top of the board.
Once that was dry, I was ready to attach the hanger. I bent one end of the wire and stapled it to the back of the board, added some beads to the wire and stapled the other end.
Then I wrapped part of the wire around a pencil and made it look kind of curly and crazy to keep the beads spread out.
To finish it off I tied torn strips of red and blue fabric on the sides of the wire.
I love having it on our front porch! I am proud that my husband served in the armed forces and very thankful to live in this great country!

LOVE this! So creative! Thanks for linking up
I totally love this! Just from looking at the picture, I never would have guessed that you dry brushed gray paint on. I thought you sanded it. So cool. I’m definitely pinning this!
Very sweet project – the beads are a nice touch, and you have lovely free style hand writing.
Darling!
This turned out great. I hope you will link up to my Patriotic Project Parade!
