When I recently created my new bedside table, I decided I wanted a cute tray to set on top. I found an old picture frame in my attic that I thought would be the perfect size to make the tray. This is a super simple project to make a pretty tray to add some color and style to your room!
Here is the lovely gold picture frame that I had been saving for just the right project!
To get started, remove the glass and spray-paint the frame white (this is a photo of the frame on my spray-painting board).
Trace the piece of glass onto fabric or pretty paper to use for the base of the tray.
Re-assemble the frame with the fabric (or paper) behind the glass. If the back corners of the tray are not smooth you might want to add little felt stickers so it won’t scratch the surface you set it on.
Now you have a super simple and stylish new tray!

I’ve made many of these. Not only have I used paper and fabric for the “insert, but also photos, pressed flowers and fabric doilies. I love these! If you use a wooden frame, you can add handles. Drawer handles work well!
Fabulous ideas! I might need to make some more now!
How fun! I love the idea of fabric inside the frame; it gives it a bit of texture, plus you can get really creative with the design! Now I just have to find an old frame to use…
I’d be thrilled if you would share this at my current link party so everyone can see how cute it is! http://practicallyfunctional.net/2012/06/the-fun-in-functional-link-party-2/
