My 2-year-old son loves the alphabet. In fact, I can tell when he wakes up in the morning because I hear him saying the alphabet in his bed. I thought it would be fun for us to work our way through the alphabet, so each week (or sometimes 2 weeks depending on how "with-it" I am) we are focusing on a letter of the alphabet. For each letter I print out a lot of coloring worksheets (keep reading for the resources) and pictures that begin with the letter of the week, we make a large letter to decorate, and we make some fun craft projects associated with the letter. All of this goes up on his closet door so we can look at it and talk about all the words that start with that letter throughout the week.
Then when we move on to the next letter, I take the large letter that we decorated and put it on the top of his wall where we will eventually have the whole alphabet in order!
I have been amazed at all the awesome resources I have found for teaching toddlers the alphabet! Each week I browse some of these awesome blogs to find worksheets to print and get ideas for projects we can do that correspond to our letter of the week.
Here are some of the best online resources I have found:
1+1+1=1 Animal ABC's and Tot School Printables
ABC Printables by Spell Outloud
**if you have more resources you would like to add please leave the link as a comment**
And we have had a lot of fun with these free printable flashcards from 1+1+1=1 and these from Homeschool Creations.
I am going to be posting tutorials to our alphabet projects too! Here is my first post, "A" is for Airplane, with a tutorial on how to make these fun foam flying airplanes, with a free printable pattern!
