Last year we made these sweet hand-print plaques for Mothers Day gifts and they turned out so cute!  They are great to make with any age of child.  We made them with our playgroup and all got to go home with sweet gifts to remember our babies' precious little hands!

I used 1 segment Sculpey Original Polymer Clay, which was just right for a baby-sized handprint.

It's pretty crumbly at first but as you work it and squish it for a while it becomes softer.

Once it is pretty warm and soft, roll it into a ball, then use a rolling pin to roll it out into a circle, about 1/4" thick.

Press your childs hand into the clay.  This is a little tough so it works best if you hold your child above the clay so their body weight can help press their hand down.  Also it helps if you use your hand to press on their fingers.  If you aren't happy with how it turned out you can always make it back into a ball and try again.

Use a skewer, toothpick, or anything pointy to punch out some holes for the ribbons and add words or decorations.

Bake it (I like to use a toaster oven) at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.

Cover it with acrylic paint (I like to add a little water so the paint gets into all the crevices more easily).  You have to be fast because the paint starts to dry quickly.

Dab and wipe off excess paint so that it is darkest in the textured areas.  If parts of the hand aren't showing up well enough you can add some extra paint with a brush to make them show up.

Add a ribbon and now it's ready to go!  These also make great Christmas ornaments!
