I have always wanted to be a stay at home mom, but since it's hard to do that without kids, I had to find something else to do in my post-college/pre-mommy years so I had a decorative painting business. I really loved transforming people's homes into works of art and wanted to share some of my handy-work with you to inspire more creativity!
This is a kitchen I made-over for a couple who really loved wine (it helped that I love wine too!)
I started by doing a rustic knock-down-trowel texture on the walls and hand-painted a grapevine above the cabinets. The back-splash was just basic ceramic tiles so I painted a vineyard mural and made it look like you are looking out a window while you cook at the stove.
To paint on the ceramic tile backsplash, I first applied an oil-based primer so the paint would adhere properly. I used acrylic paints for the mural and then several coats of Minwax Polycrylic to seal it.
I also painted several accent tiles around the kitchen.
For a finishing touch I painted a grapevine with wine glasses and bottle around the door.
What a perfect place to uncork your favorite bottle and cook some delicious food!
